The Hosiery Association Announces Support for WRAP Program
Charlotte, NC: The Hosiery Association (THA) is pleased to announce its participation in the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) program. “Our members include some of the largest sock and sheer hosiery companies in the US that produce both domestically and offshore. With the expansion of codes of conduct, we believe it is important to support one program that provides a rigorous code and certification model for our members to demonstrate their commitment to ethical, legal and humane working conditions around the world. We’re seeing too many audits being conducted too often to conflicting standards” offered Sally Kay, president and CEO of THA. “We think the WRAP code and certification model incorporates the best of all code programs and offers independent certification by a third-party organization.”

“We are very pleased that THA selected WRAP as its compliance program of choice. THA members produce some of the best known brands of socks and hosiery for consumer in factories here in the US and around the world. To have them join our growing list of participating organizations is a real honor for us,” said Steve Jesseph, WRAP president and CEO. “With THA’s support, we now enjoy participation from 22 apparel and footwear associations around the world, plus the International Apparel Federation. We welcome the participation from THA members and their manufacturing partners around the world.”

“Our members have been asked to have their facilities audited to too many different codes,” added Bill Nichol of Gildan USA and THA Chairman. “We would like to see all brands, manufacturers and retailers collectively support the WRAP code program and eliminate the continuous and often duplicative number of audits currently being conducted. While a variety of audits do not enable a factory to run more effectively or efficiently, they do add costs which are ultimately passed on to the consumer. We think that the WRAP code allows us to demonstrate that ‘we’re doing the right thing’ at the factory level and producing desirable items for consumers at the same time.”
