WRAP announces its fourth annual social compliance course taught at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

This one-of-a-kind course educates the future fashion designers, buyers and brand owners on social compliance and the promotion of lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing practices throughout the world.

The five-day course, taught by WRAP’s Vice President of Training and Education Stuart Webster, teaches honors students in the international production specialization of AMFI’s Fashion and Management degree program. The Fashion Institute’s third-year honors students will learn the ins-and-outs of factory certification, social compliance practices and challenges, and the role of audits and WRAP certification in the apparel and fashion industry.

As part of the program, the fashion students will continue on to internships in the apparel sourcing and production industry—many heading to work directly with factories in China and Southeast Asia and stopping at Hong Kong Polytechnic for a course in basic Chinese language and culture along the way.

“This is one of the courses I really look forward to teaching. It starts the year off very well because of the enthusiasm, potential and drive of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute students. These students are the future of the fashion industry—they will be the designers, brand owners, and buyers, taking with them an understanding of social compliance issues in the workplace,” said Webster.

The course runs this week—January 30 to February 3, 2012. Throughout the session, WRAP will feature live updates from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute on Twitter, Facebook and the WRAP blog.
