Overview

WRAP rarely conducts on-site inspections with its own personnel. It usually bases its evaluation of a factory on verifiable and credible monitoring performed by outside enterprises that are:

  • Either commercial or non-profit
  • Professionally qualified
  • Accredited by WRAP to conduct inspections in a certain country (or certain countries) for a specified time.

Accreditation is meant to ensure that:

  • Only competent professionals perform the on-site facility evaluations.
  • All monitors follow in a uniform fashion all over the world. One of WRAP’s purposes is to substitute arbitrary, duplicative, and costly inspections with a uniform measure of legal, ethical, and humane manufacturing practices. (Note that while WRAP’s monitoring procedures are uniform throughout the world, some of the criteria for evaluating factories vary from country to country.)
