P R E S S R E L E A S E Zeist, November 20th, 2007 IAF SECRETARY GENERAL HAN BEKKE KNIGHTED IN THE ORDER OF ORANGE NASSAU During the annual convention of MODINT which was held on 15 November 2007, Han Bekke (58), Director General of MODINT and Secretary General a.i. of the IAF, has been knighted by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands in the Order of Orange Nassau. The Order of Orange-Nassau was created by law on 4 April 1892. This Order is the third Dutch Order and Her Majesty the Queen is Grand Master of the Order. Han Bekke has been honoured in recognition of his extraordinary social and managerial merits in the national and international fashion industry. Bekke is director general of MODINT, the Dutch trade organization for fashion and interior textiles, and its pre-successor FENECON since 1992. Approximately 850 companies are members of MODINT, which combined claim an annual turnover of more than nine billion euros. Since 1971, Bekke has been active in this industry. He worked for the Dutch Economic Association for the Apparel Industry, and then moved on to FENECON – which is now MODINT. From 1986 – 2002 he worked as Secretary General for Economic Affairs at FENECON. Bekke also retains a number of chairman positions within the fashion and textile industry. He served as vice-chairman of the European Clothing Association (ECLA) from 1986 – 1993, as employer chairman of the Apparel Monitoring Body on central wage agreements from 1997 – 2002, as well as the Social Foundation of the Apparel Industry. Prior to this, he had already been linked to both organizations as a Board Member. He was board member of the International Apparel Federation from 1997 – 2002, and became Secretary General a.i. IAF in 2006. Bekke operated as Board Member of the Education and Development Foundation of the Apparel Industry in 1992 for ten years, while he was also a member of the Bargaining Commission of the Apparel Industry. He worked as Secretary General / Treasurer of the Dutch Fashion Institute from 1982 – 1992, and in the period of 1980 – 1986 he was also Secretary General / Treasurer of the Dutch Fur Institute. From 1992 – 2004, he served as chairman of the Wiggermann foundation. Bekke was a member of the National Exam Commission MDGO Education from 1980 – 1990, and became a member of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute Advisory Board in 1992. Since 1999 he has been the chairman of the jury for the Dutch fashion prize, “Grand Seigneur”; prior to this he had been a member of the jury since 1992. In addition to his achievements within the fashion industry, he has also been an active community member in Bussum, where he lives. He has been vice chairman of the hockey association MHC Amstelveen (from 1977 to 1984) and from 1974 – 1986 he served as Secretary General of the Foundation Sport Federation Randwijck and acted as its chairman from 1996 – 2000. Bekke was also member of the organization committee of the Dutch National Indoor Hockey Championships from 1980 – 1989. He was chairman of the Amsterdam Buitenveldert Rotary Club from 2003 – 2004 and was also the chairman of the Bussumse Montessorischool from 1996 – 2000. Until present, he serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Bussumse Montessorischool and a Board Member of the Mr. Koetsier Foundation. Bekke is bearer of the golden MODINT honorary pin, honorary member of the hockey association M.H.C. Amstelveen and Freeman of the City of London.
